Cashmere never shouts. It whispers. This is undoubtedly what has made it, for centuries, the most sought-after material, the one the most demanding houses continue to work with unwavering fidelity.
Taken from the down of the Cashmere goat, gathered in spring during the animal’s natural molt, this rare textile owes its unique character to its exceptional fineness. A cashmere fiber measures between 14 and 19 microns in diameter, finer than a human hair. This microscopic structure gives it a softness and a thermal insulation that no synthetic fiber has ever managed to reproduce.
In the Coulange workshop, cashmere is treated with the respect it deserves. Each piece is cut one by one, the finishes are meticulous, the seams are checked under every light, and every garment is made in France, in our workshop. This is not production, but patient assembly, where time has no hold over the gesture.
What distinguishes exceptional cashmere from ordinary cashmere comes down to three criteria on which the Maison never compromises: the length of the fiber, which ensures resistance to pilling; the number of twists per centimeter, which determines how the garment holds its shape; and the quality of the weave, which dictates the drape. A Coulange cashmere coat, worn year after year, does not lose its shape. It lives with the man or woman who wears it, whether a cashmere pea coat, a cashmere officer’s cape or a cashmere bomber jacket.
Quiet elegance is not a style. It is a philosophy of dress, in which one dresses not to be noticed but to be right. Cashmere, through its natural restraint and contained warmth, embodies this idea better than any other material. Discover our women’s cashmere pieces.
