Cashmere never shouts. It whispers. This is undoubtedly what has made it the most sought-after fabric for centuries — the one that the most discerning houses continue to work with unwavering devotion.

Derived from the undercoat of the Cashmere goat, hand-harvested in spring during the animal's natural moulting, this rare textile owes its unique character to its exceptional fineness. A cashmere fibre measures between 14 and 19 microns in diameter — finer than a human hair. This microscopic structure gives it a softness and thermal insulation capacity that no synthetic fibre has ever managed to replicate.

In the Coulange workshop, cashmere is treated with the respect it deserves. Each piece is cut one by one, the finishes done by hand, the seams inspected under every light. This is not production: it is patient assembly, where time has no hold on the gesture.

What distinguishes an exceptional cashmere from an ordinary one comes down to three criteria that the House never compromises on: fibre length, which guarantees resistance to pilling; the number of twists per centimetre, which determines how the garment holds its shape; and the quality of the knitting, which dictates the drape. A Coulange coat, worn year after year, does not lose its shape. It lives with its wearer.

Understated elegance is not a style. It is a philosophy of clothing, where one dresses not to be noticed but to be true. Cashmere, with its natural sobriety and contained warmth, embodies this idea better than any other fabric.
